Albert (Ab) Eagles

On September 26, 2016, Albert (Ab) Bruce Eagles slipped away peacefully on his final “sortie” to be with his wife, Helen Elizabeth (Dungey) of 59 years. Left behind are his son Brian in Victoria, BC, daughter Barbara in High River, AB, his beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Krista), Christopher, Brien, Fay, and Bret, three mischievous great grandchildren, Michael, Isabella,  and Juliette, and numerous, very special, nieces and nephews.   In the one hundred and three and a half years Ab spent on this earth he accomplished many things. Of his family of six brothers and one sister, Ab was the first Eagles to be born (March 28, 1913) in Canada to his English immigrant parents, William and Annie Elizabeth. They settled in Southampton, Ontario, where Ab spent the majority of his life. Ab owned and operated A.B. Eagles Builders Supplies for almost 50 years. As a respected member of the community, Ab was a School Trustee, PUC Commissioner, United Church Trustee, a Mason, and a ‘Tail-end Charlie’ rear gunner in the RAF Bomber Command during WW II. Ab walked his life with dignity, touching those he passed with kindness, grace and a twinkle in his eye. Appreciation and gratitude is extended to family, friends, and personal care givers who cherished and loved him, and to the staff and chaplains at Summit Place Care Centre, Owen Sound, who cared and nourished him physically and spiritually.   Ab’s journey will be celebrated with laughter and tears with close friends and family at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Anglican Church Community Hall in Southampton.   On every ordinary day in every ordinary way, Albert Bruce Eagles made an extraordinary difference!   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Quilts of Valour – Canada Society – www.quiltsofvalour.ca/donations.html  or a charity of your choice.   Online condolences may be made at www.greybrucecremation.com.
