8 January 1945 to 1 June 2020

M. E. Elaine was born in Hanover to Clifford and Adele Dudgeon on January 8, 1945.  She grew up in Elderslie Township, attended business college in Toronto before settling in Paisley. She died suddenly and unexpectedly in London Hospital on June 1, 2020.

Elaine married Jim Blue in 1963.  Jim was her childhood sweetheart and she would tell the story of how she told her future mother-in-law at age 5 that she would marry Jim one day.  They enjoyed 48 years of marriage before Jim passed in 2011.  They raised 5 children, Lynne Lahn and Paul of Walkerton, Shelly Blue and Judy of Port Elgin, Robert Blue and Debbie of Port Elgin, Larry Blue and Carri of Chesley and Margaret Blue and Bill of Winnipeg.

Elaine loved her grandchildren and found a way to make each and every one of them special to her.  She never forgot a birthday and everyone had a pair of hand knit socks.  She will be missed by Danielle (Tyson), Sara (Barry), Brent (Ashley), Melanie, Jarrett, Alexis, Lola, Lillie, Liam, Alex, Rebecca (Ryan) and Ryan.  She was thrilled when the great grandchildren came along, Tristan and Elliott

She was loved and cherished by brother Stewart Dudgeon and his wife Olive, her in-laws Jeanette Ash, Nancy and Brian Ash and Kim and Larry Martini and many nieces and nephews. She looked forward to the monthly brunch with Jim’s sisters, a tradition held for many years and only missed for stormy weather.

She was predeceased by her husband James “Jim” Blue, granddaughter Melanie Blue, sister Alice Krotz, brother Kenneth Walter Dudgeon, sister-in-law Carol Dunkel, and brother-in-law Dick Ash.

Elaine loved the Community of Paisley and served on the Paisley Fall Fair Board, Local Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed serving at Gibby’s Grub for many years.  She loved to connect and get caught up with people while she scooped an ice cream cone or served up some fresh cut fries.  In the days before pagers, she tended the Paisley Fire Phone in her home for a number of years and always assisted with ensuring the Fire Fighters had sandwiches and coffee when out on a call.

She was fiercely independent.  She was a strong and determined matriarch and was determined to cut her own lawn and blow her own snow.   She loved her neighbours and was very proud of her little home that she lived in for 51 years.  She enjoyed crafts and made many friends through the local quilting groups and looked forward to connecting with the women to work on a quilting project.  She embraced technology and was happy to help others with cameras, computers and digital scrapbooks.  She was a strong shoulder to lean on and many did.  You could always count on sound advice.  It may have not been what you were hoping for but it would be genuine and honest and always from a place of love.  She found a special place in Prince Edward Island and enjoyed visiting “her island” in the past few years.
