David Carlson
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of David Bruce Carlson, in his 73rd year, at the GBHS Owen Sound Hospital on March 9th, 2021. Dave was the eldest son of the late Ron and Rhonda (Hewton) Carlson. He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Dianne (Beckett), son Steve (Alison) and daughter Lisa (Tim) Vandolder. He will be greatly missed by his four grandsons, Trevor and Cory Carlson, Jakob and Benjamin Vandolder. He was thrilled to have three granddaughters Emma, Brooklyn and Katie join the family in 2020. In addition, Dave leaves behind his sister Lyn Carlson (Rob English), sisters-in-law Patty Carlson and Lorraine Rutherford, brothers-in-law Bill (Muriel) Beckett, Stan (June) Beckett and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Don Carlson, brother-in-law Jim Rutherford and sister-in-law Joy (McLean) Beckett.
Dave spent 30 years in the teaching profession. His career began in Wiarton, then Peel county and in 1974 was hired at Macphail school in Flesherton teaching “Shop” (Industrial Arts). It gave him great pleasure teaching life long skills and many of his students still have projects they made in his class. He shared his love of photography with his students by setting up a dark room in his shop. He loved spending time with his family at the family cottage, catching many fish over the years. He had a great sense of humour and wit that remained with him until the end. His smile will be a special memory for many.
The family would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Owen Sound Hospital. A special thanks to the ICU nurses Anita, Becky, Nichole, Sam, Sidney and for their TLC and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and in honouring his wishes there will be no funeral.
