It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Paul Geoffrey William Royall in Owen Sound on July 8, 2021. Paul will be lovingly remembered as a friend, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin, and uncle. He is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda (Hewitt), as well as his four children, Sandra Ball (Gerald), Stephen Royall, Philip Royall and Brian (Tanya) Royall. As a grandfather, he will be forever remembered by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother and father (Anne and Geoff Royall), mother and father-in-law (Edward and Beatrice Hewitt), brother Alwyn Royall (Shirley), and sister Evangeline Fetherston.

Paul was the son of Christian missionaries and was born in the backcountry of China in 1933. He led an extraordinary life full of devotion to God, love of his family, and adventure. As a child this included a front row seat to the Second-Sino Japanese War where he witnessed violence, the courage of others, as well as their love and compassion. As a teenager he lived in the United States and eventually returned to Canada.

At 25 years old he met the love of his life. Paul and Glenda were married for over 62 years. He felt blessed to have a wonderful wife and raise a beautiful family together. He worked for over 30 years at IBM and enjoyed more than 33 years of retirement living in Owen Sound. Paul loved photography, sailing, and flying model airplanes. Throughout his life he travelled around the world, seeing places as far as China, Europe, and England. However, his greatest joy was his friends and family. Paul had a wonderful sense of humor and was always prepared with a great come back. He was a source of advice and insight to his family, challenging them to embrace opportunities or stay steadfast or simply sharing a story from his life. Paul leaves them with countless memories and shared moments of laughter.

A special thank you to the compassion and care that Chapman House provided to Paul in his last weeks. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Chapman House, Residential Hospice Grey Bruce in Owen Sound.

Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.

Condolences for Paul Royall
