John (Jack) Yourth

Having just turned 88, Jack passed peacefully at home on Saturday, March 5, 2022 surrounded by his adoring family, after a long courageous battle. He has shown his family and loved one’s strength and courage beyond measure.

Jack was born in the Ottawa valley and raised in Golden Lake, Ontario, before moving to Port Elgin permanently in the 1970’s. He married the love of his life 67 years ago, whom he is survived by, Irma Yourth (nee Foy). Jack and Irma created a beautiful family together. They have four children, Don Yourth, Cathy Yourth (Tom Fenton), Terry Yourth (Brenda), and Ron Yourth (Trudy), all of Port Elgin. From these children they have been blessed with five grandchildren who were the apple of his eye and in return, “Poppy” was their hero, Jenn Major (Gino), Tyler Yourth (Stacey), Madison Yourth (Devin), Jade Yourth (Adam), and Connor Yourth (Lindsay). The blessings continue with their seven great-grandchildren.  Jack will be greatly missed by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and dear family friend Mert McArthur. He is predeceased by his brother Douglas Yourth, parents John and Lucinda (nee Molkentine) Yourth and many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Jack worked hard his whole life and earned his degree as “Jack of all trades” from the school of life. From being a hunting/fishing guide, to a mechanic, to a pipefitter, he truly could fix anything, and we often referred to him as MacGyver. He always was the first one there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, always and without question asking nothing in return. An avid craftsman, he could always be found in his shop working on a new project that he was always eager to share.

Above all, he loved and was so very proud of his wife and family. A truly kind, gentleman who taught us all what a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather should be. He will be deeply missed but provided us all a lifetime of memories.

A big thank you to Barb Wilson and his Kidney/Dialysis care team in London and Owen Sound. To the wonderful Nurses, Doctors and care staff on the 6th floor in Owen Sound, at Southampton Memorial and at the Southampton Care Centre. To his long-time PSW Sherry that always brightened his day and ours, thank you dearly. To the VON nurses and Dr. Julie Gibb who went above and beyond to make his and our final days at home with him possible, we can’t thank you enough.

A small family gathering will be held to celebrate Jack’s life at a later date. Donations in his name gladly appreciated to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Bring Tom to Town Campaign. However, the way to best honour Jack is to be kind, help someone in any way that you can, give your dog an extra treat for him, and always pay it forward, this is how Jack lived and a lesson we can all take from such a wonderful man.
