It is with sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of our father, Raymond Gillis, predeceased by wife Helen, son Raymond, son in law Manuel Amaral, brothers George, Doug and sisters Shirley (Melski), Mary (Gillis) and Tessie (White). He is survived by siblings Butch, Michael, Willena, Gerry and Anne.

A proud Cape Bretoner’, doting husband, father and proud grandfather, great-grand father, baby whisperer, musician, counsellor and friend. Always a gentleman. The patience of Job combined with a quit wit – he was a person in the family, often sought when you needed to talk. highlighting the path to arrive at your own destination. He was a daily supporter of Tim Hortons, and always an ear for a stranger.

Dad was a seasoned story teller with comical memories of more difficult times that had you yearning for. He shared a passion, his for harness racing with his brothers that seemed to shorten the miles between them. He loved to reminisce of the 27 road trips out east.

His legacy will live in the memories of his surviving children Joan (Tim) McCormick, Diane Amaral, Janet, and Audrey (Rob) Halter and grandchildren Jennifer, Holly, Cheyne, Jessica, Alex, Rachel, Tommy, and great grand children Allie, Sara, Mea, Hughie, Harmony, Lexi, Aaron, Becca, Julian, Paige, AJ and great-great grandchild Aria. You will always be his pride and joy.

A special thank you to Dr Gunaratne, the Kincardine Hospital staff, and the team at R Villa for the incredible care Dad has received over the years.

Going back to Cape Breton was fondly referred to as going home, but “home” for Dad was where my Mom was. Joined at the hip for 61 years with a united front facing whatever life dealt them

With Mom, Dad is truly home.

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be a private family celebration.
