Joan (Trenbath) Potter

Potter Photo

It is with deep pain and sadness that the Potter family announce that Joan (Trenbath) Potter, our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, left this world for the next on October 4, 2017, following a brief illness.  She was in her 87th year.  She passed peacefully with her family by her side.  An ever devoted wife, Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Sydney, who died on May 2, 2016.  Joan was born in Manchester, England on May 19, 1931 and after meeting and marrying Sid, they came to Canada on the S.S. Atlantic passenger ship in May of 1953.  She is survived by her brothers John (Kathy) and Ernie (June) and sister Maureen (Ernest Fitton) and beloved Auntie of many nieces and nephews.  Although, her family was across the “pond” she kept in close contact with them.  With unwavering love, her life was dedicated to her husband, raising and caring for her five children and shepherding her 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild (Hendrix).  She was a fine artist of needle point and knitting of various caricatures and clowns. She loved to tend to her flowers, watch the humming birds, read and research history of our family on the internet.  She was the loving mother of Steven, Kevin (Lydia), Malcolm (Carol), Janice (Ray Porter) and Jo-Anne (Mark Harbinson). She was extremely proud of all of her grandchildren, Madison (Peter), Travis (Kimberly), Michelle (John), Christopher, Stephanie (Rob), James, Victoria, Sydney (Joe), Rebecca (Rynee), Eric (Raven) and Jeremy. Mum was always in the backfield never looking for accolades or praise.  With her strength and selflessness, she was the one who kept the our family in motion. Mum could overcome any obstacle, we never did without. Our parents provided us all with a great foundation that we can pass onto our children.   She loved us all the same.  She will be in our hearts forever – ever missed and always loved.  “See you whenever”

Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held in Barrie (date to be determined).  For expressions of sympathy, Mum’s wishes were for memorial donations to be made to the Salvation Army, Hanover or a location that serves your area. Online condolences may be made at www.greybrucecremation.com.
