Elsie Hammel

On the evening of November 10th, with her daughter Brenda by her side and her granddaughter Rachael McCartney (Matt) holding her hand, Elsie Olive Eleanor Hammel (née Willis) passed away peacefully at the Owen Sound Hospital, in her 85^th year.  Elsie is survived by her children Jerry Hillyer (Linda), Angela Lindsay (Rick), Brenda McCartney (Larry) and Gloria Doucette (Rick) and her cherished sister Liz Merner.  She will also be missed by all her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her brothers Steve and Len Willis, sisters Daisy Blanchard and Bess Snyderhan, parents Olive and Clarence Willis and son Ralph Hillyer.  Elsie was adored by her dear friends Julie, Ruby, Jerry, Maureen and Grandma. She was an active member of the Legion, loved a good game of cards and enjoyed a challenging puzzle.  Elsie was known for her kindness and contributions to various charities including pop tabs for wheelchairs.  A very special and heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff of the Grey Bruce District Stroke Centre.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date to celebrate Elsie’s life.  Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services 519-371-8507.
