Tony Matrosovs passed away peacefully in his 82nd year on May 30, 2021 in the Town of the Blue Mountains.  He was born in Riga, Latvia in 1939 to Lidija (Danilova) and Ioanikijs Matrosovs. He fled in 1944 with his mother and brother to a displaced persons camp in Austria and finally came to Canada in 1949. He met Ursula in their first year at the Ontario College of Art and was her loving husband for 58 years. He was the beloved dad of Jenny (Craig) and Andrea (Chris), and a devoted grandpa of James (Shannon) and Anna (Adam).  He will also be missed by his brother Peter (Kathryn) and nephews Kevin and Kyle.

Tony is remembered fondly by family in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Latvia and Russia and by his long-time friends.

Tony had a passion for trains, rocks and road trips and a lifetime curiosity about geology, space and physics.  He was always there for his family and encouraged us all to pursue adventure in our lives. We thank Errinrung Long Term Care staff for their dedication and kindness to Tony in his last year. A private family celebration of life will be held when the family can gather together again. Those wishing to pay tribute to Tony are encouraged to donate to the charity of their choice.

Condolences for Anatolijs (Tony) Matrosovs
