Timothy John Eaton, 67, of Port Elgin, Ontario, passed away on October 27, 2023, at home—exactly where he wanted to. He was born on September 13, 1956, to Margaret and Harold Eaton in London, Ontario. Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Lori Eaton, his son Brad Eaton, his daughter Cara Eaton and her partner Chris Ambrus, his sheltie Wilco, as well as his three younger siblings: Mike Eaton, Karen Eaton and Krista Mansour.

Tim was quippy, intelligent, and had a strong presence. He loved to ski, windsurf and golf with his many friends, and for years, Tim would organize annual southern golf trips. He brought together friends from every part of his life for annual Phlaboe’s golf weekends. He volunteered as President of the Rotary Club of Port Elgin, as President of the Chamber of Commerce, as President of the Saugeen Golf Club during the recent clubhouse renovation, and served as Treasurer of the Breakers Swim Club. Tim came from a family of bankers (his mom, dad, and brother all followed suit) and was the Bank Manager of the TD Bank in Port Elgin for decades.

Tim loved tabletop board games and started the Saugeen Shores Board Game Club in 2018 so Lori and him could continue playing games after the kids moved out. He loved live music—having seen over 70 live concerts throughout his life—and wore a black concert t-shirt from his extensive collection every day, including his last. He judged Battle of the Bands at the Queens Bar & Grill and was known as Tim the Rockin’ Banker for frequently calling into the radio station to answer music trivia. Tim fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing harmonica in a band as the character “Clap Melon Coolidge”. You can still hear “Bruce County Blues” by 12 Below Zero on 97.9FM the Bruce.

Tim was an incredible chef and learned from watching hours of cooking shows. His meals will be greatly missed by his family, but you can ask and we may share some of his secrets. Tim also followed in his mom’s footsteps by watching Jeopardy every day.

In his last two years, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Tim made his bucket-list come true. He scored perfect when earning his motorcycle license and rode as often as he could. His favorite ride was to Sauble Beach for a peanut butter parfait from Dairy Queen. Tim bought a Mustang, Ruby, and took his last ride with Lori for the Fall Colours Classic Tour through the old township of Keppel. He went to see the Blue Jays with his family, saw Spamalot in Stratford, caught one more live music show, and revisited his sister and brother-in-law’s homes in the Muskokas.

A celebration of Tim will be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Queens Bar & Grill in Port Elgin. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary Club of Port Elgin: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/rotary-club-of-port-elgin-ontario-charitable-trust/ .  Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.

Condolences for Timothy Eaton
